Bring your best idea or writing project and dive deep into a joyful and moving exploration of yourself and your work.

Chris Wells, creator of the Writing Life workshops, guides you through an evocative series of conversations, deep and reflective questions, and assignments that take you on a passionate journey of self-discovery. With dynamic writing prompts and creative exercises, his expertise helps you get at what you want to write and make decisions on how to move forward. You write as much as possible over the course of the week and leave with a ton of new writing and a greater sense of yourself as an artist.

Writers of all genres are welcome—bloggers, memoirists, playwrights, academics, historians, performers, novelists, travel writers, you name it. No previous writing experience is required.

Enrollment is limited for this program; register early.

Faculty asks that you bring the following items with you to the course:

  • One idea to work on for the duration
  • Materials for writing (If you write on a laptop, bring it. Pen and paper? Bring them, etc.)
  • An object that is personally revealing (This is intentionally vague: some people bring food, or flowers, or a photo of their family, a memento - up to you)
  • One fancy garment (a sparkly shawl, a top, a vest)
  • A version of someone else’s story that you love (A book, essay, movie, etc., up to you)
  • A photo of an artistic hero (Preferably a tangible image but if you can only find it in digital form, that’s cool)

Dining Hall Hours (Meals begin with dinner on arrival day and end with lunch on departure day.):

Dinner: 6:00 p.m.–7:15 p.m.

Daily Open Classes in meditation, yoga, tai chi, or movement (subject to availability):

Accommodations cover your room, all meals, and use of amenities and facilities—which includes optional classes, evening performances, sampler classes (during the week), the lake, walking trails, parking, and all other guest services.
